Backstage Tours

Each night before the show begins, guests who have come year after year, or new guests, will have an opportunity to see behind the scenes at Cliffside Amphitheatre. The outdoor dramas at Grandview have become a tradition every summer for many tour groups, families and tourists.
Guests will see the shows in a new perspective after taking the tour backstage. For instance, guests will see how some of the special effects work and how a different show is performed night after night. The tour also includes a stop by the theatre’s costume shop. At the costume shop, guests can see the elaborate costumes that are worn on stage. Just a few examples include Civil War uniforms, beautiful ball gowns from “Honey in the Rock” and more costumes from current and past productions. While backstage, guests also get an opportunity to see up close some of the old and new set pieces.
The tour gives guests the chance to view what life is like backstage before a show, how the performers transform into their characters and how they prepare for major fight scenes. This allows guests the chance to connect with actors backstage during the tour and then, moments later, see those same actors on stage. Tour guests can learn more about the famous outdoor dramas at Grandview and how they have become an icon in West Virginia’s arts and tourism. Most of all, the tour allows guests to be entertained and get to see the shows like they have never seen them before!
