|    | Theatre West Virginia Professional Training Academy Theatre West Virginia is proud to house its Professional Training Academy, an outlet for southern West Virginia theatre enthusiasts of all ages to hone their craft. The Academy’s mission is to “develop human potential in people of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels through performing arts training and performing opportunities.” Since 1998, theatre professionals have been educating students ages five and up in music, theatre, film and stagecraft classes. Students exposed to the arts are noted to have higher test scores and levels of confidence. Alumni have gone on to study in prestigious theatre programs at schools such as Point Park University and New York University. Current students are featured on PBS' "Abracadabra." Theatre West Virginia's Professional Training Academy will resume classes this September. Email us to be the first to know when fall registration opens. Also be on the lookout for our week long drama camp, coming this August. Recent Class Offerings: Acting 1/Intermediate: Acting beginners will be introduced to theatre basics in a fun and safe environment. 3rd grade reading level and above. Advanced Acting: To be eligible for this class you must have had one semester each of Acting I and Acting Intermediate or two semesters of musical theatre. Music Theatre 1: An introduction to musical theatre, emphasizing how to sell a song and have fun performing. Ages 5 - 10. Music Theatre 2: Students will perform more advanced material than Musical Theatre 1, focusing on acting the song. Ages 11 and up. Stage Make-up: Students learn the basics of stage make-up (correctional, old age, bruising). Students will provide make-up application for the Professional Youth Troupe production. Ages 10 to Adult. Professional Youth Troupe: This production based class is by invitation only and for the Academy's most advanced students. Stage Combat: Learn how to throw a punch without actually throwing one. Stage combat is a specialized technique in theatre designed to create the illusion of physical combat without causing harm to the performers. Ages 10 to Adult. Private Voice Lessons: 1 hour Sessions ~ Call TWV for available times. Cost $35.00 per session. A two-on-one approach that encompasses technique, acting the song, musical theatre history and basic musicianship. Perfect for an upcoming audition or just for fun. Classes run weekly for ten weeks culminating in a recital the eleventh week. |
